2024 with Oy Vey!
Oy Vey organizes Jewish events and activities in Amsterdam and other locations in the Netherlands.
As Jews, we have an abundance of new years celebrations to follow. In the Jewish tradition, we have the new year of the trees, of the animals, of the head of the year (Rosh Hashana), liberation and redemption (the first of Nissan, which is the month when we celebrate Pesach), and tithing (oh – would that be something like tax season?). Some of us enjoy a good Noruz celebration on the vernal equinox, and of course there is 31 December 31. All those fireworks were not for the 7th night of Chanukkah, they were, in fact, for something non-Jews call New Year’s Eve.
We made a slide show to give you a taste of our previous year. Check it out!
Oy Vey, were we ever busy in 2024
FILMS
Wednesday, January 22, 9:00 PM – Screening of No Other Land at Rialto de Pijp
After a successful screening of the inspiring film Disturbing the Peace, we will watch the award-winning documentary No Other Land together on January 22. When Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham comes to report on the area, a friendship develops with his peer Basel Adra, who grew up in Masafer Yatta. Despite their strong alliance, their friendship is fragile due to differences in power and experience.
