Being Jewish in the Netherlands

A pink mezuzah, a grater, a roll of aluminum foil, a kiddush cup, and a fish amulet….

When is a mezuzah as powerful as a roll of aluminum foil?

When it walks into a bar with a rabbi, a priest, and an imam? No that’s not it…

A mezuzah is as powerful as a roll of aluminum foil when it reminds us of just how Jewish we are.

For the Oy Vey project Het Joods Manifest (The Jewish Manifesto), we spoke with several Jewish people in the Netherlands about what it’s like to be Jewish here. They told us about their experiences with anti-Semitism, their joys and their struggles. Most brought objects that were important to them and shared why.

On December 26, the last day of Channuka, we are sharing the film that Stuart Acker Holt created for us.

The film isn’t the end of the project! It’s the beginning! We want to hear from you too! There are many ways for you to participate:

  • Share the film (Tips here for sharing on Instagram)
  • Respond to the film with one of your own! (Instructions here)
  • Attend a discussion session online or face-to-face (Join us!)
