20 & 21 September - Yom Kippur

Amsterdam, Amsterdam
20/09 18:45We are inviting you to join us in ushering in the year 5787 in an immersive way by experiencing the magical ancestral portal of transformation that we call the High Holidays. Yom Kippur is the day of atonement. It is a day in which we open up to our own mortality as a way of softening into being alive. A day to know and experience that redemption and forgiveness are possible. It helps us re-orient ourselves to living our best lives, reconnecting to our ethics of care and joy, to our friends, family and community and helps us to show up in the world as a force of good.
Yom Kippur falls on the 10th day of the month of Tishrei in the Hebrew calendar. This year it falls on the 20th of September (after sunset) and continues through to the evening of the 21st of September.
We offer a Kol Nidrei gathering on the 20th in the evening (18:45 – 19:30) to open the gates of Yom Kippur together in our Jewish Living Room and invite you to join us at the Uilenburgersjoel (across the street from us) on the 21st of September (12:00 – 21:00). Like last year, we will spend a day of being together (alone), in community, meditating, praying, dancing, reading – whatever your comfort, knowledge or practice is with this day, you are welcome as you are. We will create a container that will hold you. On the 21st we include the Yizkor, a Neila (closing of the gates) ceremony and a breaking of the fast together. You can come for part(s) of it, or for all of it.
We welcome everyone, Jewish, Jew-ish, not Jewish beloveds and friends – all budgets, all backgrounds and all levels of familiarity with Jewish ritual. No prior experience with Yom Kippur necessary.
Oy Vey is working to become a self-sustaining community. This is why we ask for a contribution for our gatherings. This event costs around 40 eu per participant. We offer a tiered system of donation: 25/40/55 euro.
Pay what you like/can to support Oy Vey and our community. Please consider supporting someone else by opting for the higher tier. After signing up you will receive a payment link. Once you have donated, you will receive a confirmation of your spot.
If none of these options work for you, please get in touch for a cheaper or free ticket at: lievnath@oyvey.nl
