Ethan Sisser, a young man with terminal brain cancer, sits alone in his hospital room. When he begins to live stream his journey to the end on social media, thousands of people worldwide witness his courage. Yet Ethan has more in mind: teaching the world how to die without fear. To do this, he must film his death. In honor of Ethan’s wish, his doctor Aditi Sethi brings him to an idyllic house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. What unfolds is a story rarely seen: how a community of strangers helps a young man die with grace. Together, Ethan and Jewish director Kirschenbaum create a sensory immersion into leaving the body. “The Last Ecstatic Days” reveals a man we won’t forget—even after he takes his last breath.
