Shout! It's Nisan!

Pesach with Oy Vey!

Your Jewish Horoscope

The Sefer Yetzira has this to tell us about Nisan, the month we are in now:

God produced ה [Hei], predominant in Speech, crowned, combined, and formed Aries in the world, Nisan in the year, and the right hand of man and woman.

Shout!

Friend of Oy Vey, Dvir Shalem, reminds us that Reb Nachman, who revived Chassidic practice and was born in the month of Nisan, teaches that it is a month of shouting – like Pesach is. This is a time for us to use our voices on our own behalf, to oppose injustice, and to advocate for liberation.

This month we celebrate our liberation from the shackles of slavery, when we are reminded of its hold on our bodies and our minds, and its continued existence in the world. Pesach is when we come together to renew our commitment to liberation. As Nelson Mandela said, “To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Abraham Joshua Heschel adds:

“How many disasters do we have to go through in order to realize that all of humanity has a stake in the liberty of one person; whenever one person is offended, we are all hurt. What begins as inequality of some inevitably ends as inequality of all.”

Abraham Joshua Heschel

What do we do with our inter-generational trauma?

We are discussing our experiences with inter-generational trauma at the next face-to-face session for Het Joods Manifest, and we want you to join us! Remember, these are not panel events with experts. We are learning together, sharing together, discussing together. We know that talking about intergenerational trauma isn’t for everyone. Later this year, we will also be talking about Jewish futurism, Jewish joy, and other topics.

Please sign up to be part of the discussion. Your voice is important! Find out more here.

P.S. If you are an expert on intergenerational trauma, please email us! We’d love to hear from you!
