A family must flee when a small village is plundered. The oldest children are soon separated from their parents and face the path of exile alone. They embark on a heroic and perilous journey that takes them from childhood to adolescence, searching for shelter and peace. This remarkable oil-on-glass animation, in a style reminiscent of Vincent van Gogh and Marc Chagall, as well as the color version of Shaun Tan’s graphic novel The Arrival, tells a universal refugee story. Be sure to stay until the end credits, as this universal story also serves as a personal connection between the filmmaker’s present and past.
