Ruakh: Immersive Music and Film Experience
Uilenburgersjoel, Amsterdam
Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat 9102/11/2022 00:00What is the sound of our ancestry? What is the music of our memory?
Join musicians Olec Mün and Daniel Voskoboynik for a concert and visual immersion into the sounds and faces of Jewish life at the beginning of the 20th century.
Ruakh features original music and contemporary arrangements of some of the oldest recorded Jewish songs, accompanied by projections of the earliest Jewish home videos from across Europe in the 1920s. Ruakh, rather than a formal concert, is a participatory invitation to explore where the recovery of song can take us.
Ruakh is a project of ancestral reconnection, of creating soft spaces for Jews to reconnect with the depth and diversity of their lineages. Making space to move beyond the framing context of the Shoah and all that was lost there. As recordings are re-enacted, we realise that this sacred act is ordinary; like a flame or a seed, we carry multiple melodies on.
After the concert there will be space for a conversation with Daniel and Olec, to ask questions and to discover ways of relating to our past in our present day that lie beyond the more classical d/ways of remembrance. There will be a lush buffet of shabbat sweets and drinks served in a space of shabbat relaxation.
Spaces are limited, please register here.
costs: sliding scale from 18 – 54 euro (please contact us if the cost is in any form a barrier to you participating)
